Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol employed to encrypt the data exchanged between a web server and its users. The practical application of employing an SSL is to protect the information that clients submit on your site - a login page, a payment page if you run an Internet store, and so on. Any info they type in in any box on the site shall be submitted safely and securely to the server, so their login or payment data will be protected from being accessed by unauthorized people. Usually, an SSL certificate requires a dedicated IP address to be set up, meaning that the overall cost for your presence online will be higher. While this might not exactly be a problem for a larger enterprise, it may matter for a non-profit organization or a small online shop that doesn't generate big income if additional money should be spent. That's the reason why we have taken advantage of an extension called Server Name Indication (SNI) and we have made it possible to use a shared server IP address to install an SSL certificate.
Shared SSL IP in Shared Hosting
A shared IP could be employed for any SSL certificate, no matter if you buy it from us or from some other retailer and regardless of the shared hosting package
that you have on our end. If you get the SSL through us, you will find this option on the certificate order page in your hosting Control Panel where you can also make use of the 1-click automatic configuration option we offer you. If the latter is selected in the SSL order wizard, our system will install and set up everything for you through the specifically configured server shared IP address, thus once you buy and approve the SSL, there won't be anything else to do on your end. You can save the funds that you will otherwise need to pay for a dedicated IP and the SSL shall function in the exact same way, so any information which the site visitors submit shall be encrypted. The only difference is that if you type the shared IP instead of your domain name
in an Internet browser, the website won't appear.
Shared SSL IP in Semi-dedicated Hosting
The shared IP address option is available with all Linux semi-dedicated hosting packages
and the setup takes only two clicks inside the hosting CP no matter if you buy an SSL through our company or from a third-party provider. There won't be any difference in the way the certificate works or encrypts the info that your site visitors submit, so your Internet site shall be secure without having to spend the additional funds for a dedicated IP address. The one thing that'll be different is that https://the-shared-IP won't open your Internet site, unlike https://the-dedicated-IP, but it's extremely unlikely that anybody shall ever try to access your website in this way rather than typing your domain name. We also offer an auto-configuration option for the SSLs acquired via our company and if you select it and you choose to use a shared IP rather than a dedicated one, our system will set everything up as soon as the SSL is approved and issued without any action on your end.
